House of the Future
Nanterre
The creation of the House of the Future is an opportunity to reflect on the architecture of care in the context of an innovative and pioneering child welfare project. With the aim of broadening the range of services available to children, the House of the Future is proposing a new type of establishment, a hybrid between a home and a foster family: a comprehensive programme combining accommodation, cultural activities and child psychiatric care. The aim is to support teenagers not only in their psychotherapeutic care but also in their school careers, thereby maximising their potential. The architectural design of the House of the Future supports the experimental vision of this programme through a sober and frugal renovation project for the day hospital and a new building for the accommodation centre. In contrast to the archetypal boarding school, our architecture is designed to be warm and welcoming, providing teenagers with a familiar environment similar to that of a real home.
