The diverse programs of the Angers Workshops are anchored by a planted garden at the heart of the city block. It is punctuated by vertical offices which overlook the large open space of the railway tracks while a more continuous housing block borders the quiet of the street. A variety of materials accentuates the different elements of the collection of volumes, while the sloped roofs use the language of the surrounding townhomes to create a harmony with the context. The low volumes and their planted terraces represent pauses in the built front, treated with light lacquered steel. Warm hues of concrete volumes thus detach more strongly, creating a rich set of materials and forms.
